About the Program
The Bachelor of Science in Public Policy and Leadership at UNLV is an interdisciplinary degree that prepares students to tackle complex community challenges. The curriculum’s focus on governance, leadership, community engagement, policy analysis, evidence-based decision-making, and sustainability is what makes the degree distinctive. It is also the only bachelor's degree of its kind available online in Nevada, with students enrolled from across the nation in states such as California, New York, Texas, and Maryland.
Our Curriculum
Students can expect to:
- Be introduced to governance in the United States with an urban focus; theories of urban communities and organizational change; urbanization and demographic trends; and the use of data analysis to better understand community challenges and opportunities.
- Learn how evidence, policy analysis, governance, leadership, and community perspectives shape public decision-making and influence real-world outcomes.
- Explore topics such as economics, sustainability, and climate change through electives and related coursework.
Students can also enroll in the Brookings Public Policy minor at UNLV, which is an 18-credit interdisciplinary program coordinated through the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs and School of Public Policy and Leadership. It pairs undergraduate students with scholars from the Brookings Institution to research local, national, and global policy challenges. Students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative and minor GPA to declare and complete the program.
