This flu season is shaping up to be among the most severe in years, and doctors say the flu shot, even if it's not a perfect match for the dominant strain, is still the best protection against the virus.

Three deaths after a driver smashed into an intersection going 109 mph. An 11-year old girl struck and killed crossing the street. Siblings, 6 and 11, killed by a speeding driver with their mother in the driver’s seat. Nine lives lost after a driver ran a red light at 103 mph and caused a six-vehicle crash. For some Las Vegans, stories like these from the past few years have become a harrowing reality of living in the city.

A new national study led by researchers from University of California San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences reveals that pharmacists and female pharmacy technicians face a significantly higher risk of suicide compared to their counterparts in the general population. "Our study helps confirm that pharmacists and female pharmacy technicians are at high risk for suicide nationwide," added first author Hirsh Makhija, a medical student at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. "While wellness promotion has slowly progressed for the pharmacy workforce, substantial gaps remain."

Today, Global Alzheimer’s Platform Foundation® (GAP) and Clinical Neurology Specialists (CNS) announced their collaboration to accelerate Alzheimer’s disease research in Las Vegas. CNS has joined the GAP-sponsored study, Bio-Hermes-002, a unique, observational platform study that compares blood-based and digital biomarkers to generate data that may help predict, detect and diagnose Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. This is a transformative, international study, but CNS is the only Las Vegas research site participating.
