About the Program

The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship is designed to provide fellows with a balanced and comprehensive exposure to a wide variety of pulmonary diseases and critical care conditions through experiences in the intensive care unit (ICU), inpatient consult services, outpatient continuity clinics, and subspecialty rotations. Fellows will develop the knowledge, clinical judgment, and procedural skills necessary to evaluate and manage patients across the spectrum of pulmonary and critical care medicine and to practice independently as specialists upon completion of fellowship.

Procedural training includes bronchoscopy, thoracentesis and chest tube placement, airway management and intubation, central venous and arterial catheter placement, pulmonary artery catheterization, and critical care ultrasonography. Additional ICU training may include percutaneous tracheostomy and other bedside critical care procedures. Training in interventional pulmonology includes diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), airway inspection and sampling techniques, and other advanced bronchoscopic procedures.

Fellows will also learn to interpret and apply pulmonary function tests, chest radiology, and sleep studies as part of their pulmonary and critical care education.
