Training Sites

Obstetrics at University Medical Center and Sunrise Hospital

The University Medical Center (UMC) is the primary training hospital for the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV. The school also has an affiliation with Sunrise Hospital to provide surgical rotations in oncology, gynecology, and urogynecology.

The seventh floor of UMC is dedicated to obstetrical inpatient care. There are 11 labor and delivery rooms and two operating rooms. 33 inpatient beds, an antepartum triage unit, facilities for ante and postpartum intensive care, and three nurseries support this service. The obstetric service has 24-hour in-house attendings, anesthesia and neonatal faculty, and is designated as a Level III unit.

Gynecology at University Medical Center

Gynecologic inpatient facilities include two general surgical floors, and a full service operating suite of 21 rooms covering all surgical requirements.

The oncology service covers surgery and provides adjuvant chemo therapy in the primary facility.

Outpatient Clinics

Ambulatory OB-GYN care is offered through the medical school's affiliated clinical practice, UNLV Health.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

The GSO department at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV greatly values and deeply understands the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in our department and in our practice. We recognize the unique backgrounds and needs of our patient population and strive to implement practices and policies that promote equity for our patients. We must strive to foster care teams reflective of our patients’ identities and lift the voices of our community members that are underrepresented.

As a department, we recognize the historically unacceptable practices of experimentation on enslaved women, forced sterilization, and reproductive coercion. We also realize the current day impacts of racism, homophobia, and anti-trans attitudes that create barriers to care and lead to profound health disparities for our patients.

We have created a diversity, equity, and inclusion committee that is driven by collaboration between our residents and faculty. Our goal is to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion not only in our department, but also in our community in order to improve health equity among all groups through the following:

  • Incorporation of DEI curriculum and anti-racism training into our resident and medical student curricula
  • Engaging with pipeline programs to enhance opportunities for underrepresented populations to consider careers in the fields of medicine and GSO
  • Retention of a diverse workforce of residents, faculty, and staff, and ensuring their voices are valued
  • Building connections with our community members to better understand their needs
  • Identifying barriers to health equity in our healthcare system and implementing changes to bring about positive changes
