Student attends orientation

International Students

Your UNLV experience starts here!

We're Excited You're Attending UNLV!

New Student Orientation will help you make a successful transition to UNLV. You'll learn about the services available to help you succeed, discover academic enrichment opportunities, and explore the ways to get involved on campus.

We look forward to supporting you along the way to ensure you are ready for your first semester at UNLV!

New Student Orientation Overview

Your New Student Orientation program consists of two sessions: New Student Orientation and New International Student Seminar. All incoming international students must attend both sessions to register for classes and maintain visa eligibility.

Session 1: New Student Orientation

Be sure to register for a New Student Orientation session through your MyUNLV account. There are sessions offered all through the summer for you to choose from.

Session 2: New International Student Seminar

You'll learn about the services available to help you succeed, understand your rights and responsibilities under the F-1 visa category, and explore opportunities to get involved.

Before attending orientation, you must complete the New International Student Guide and Online Pre-Orientation courses on WebCampus. Both courses will introduce you to life as a UNLV student.

A one-time orientation fee will apply to all incoming students.

New Student Orientation Handbook

Please read your New Student Orientation Handbook, which includes student support resources for future reference and details regarding important policies. You’ll also receive a physical copy of the handbook at your orientation session.

Academic Advising

Establishing a relationship with an academic advisor ensures that you meet degree requirements and accomplish your personal and educational goals.

As an international student, you’re required to enroll full-time with a minimum of 12 credits each semester. Whether you enroll in 12 credits or more, 9 credits must be completed on campus, not online.

Fall Semester

First-year students will receive their class schedules during orientation and learn valuable information about degree requirements. Guests are not permitted to attend advising and class registration sessions with their students.

Your academic advisor will enroll you in the appropriate courses based on your major and official placement information submitted to the Office of Admissions. If you do not have official placement scores or wish to improve your placement, review the UNLV Placement Assessment options. Official placement information must be submitted to the Office of Admissions prior to your scheduled orientation.
