This December marks one year since the UNLV shooting which tragically took the life of three professors. As we approach the one year anniversary, students and faculty are coming together to remember those who died and honor their memory.

Three UNLV students were awarded memorial scholarships in honor of the three professors killed in the Dec. 6 shooting. That day, a shooter entered Beam Hall and took the lives of three professors: Patricia Navarro Velez; Jerry Cha-Jan Chang of Management, Entrepreneurship and Technology Department; and Naoko Takemaru of World Languages and Cultures. The students were each awarded scholarships corresponding to each professor’s area of expertise.

Friday marks one year since the mass shooting on the UNLV campus that claimed the lives of three professors and seriously injured a fourth. As part of planned remembrance of events on campus, a student-led project one year in the making will be on display for the first time.

What began as a small initiative by a few students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has grown into an international art project involving 4,000 origami cranes. Students are currently assembling the final pieces, which will be displayed in four frames, each containing 1,000 cranes. The red cranes will spell out "UNLV."

UNLV is a step closer to no longer owning and maintaining Sam Boyd Stadium, former home of Rebels football. Clark County’s acquisition of the 69-acre Sam Boyd site from UNLV for a $5 million fee was unanimously approved Wednesday by the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents.
