In a city where buildings aren’t known for their longevity, Las Vegas will soon celebrate a milestone for its tallest landmark.

The Stratosphere Las Vegas is considered to be one of the iconic buildings in Las Vegas with its well known tower, which stands at 1,149 feet tall. The late Bob Stupak was a promoter, poker player and visionary, the man behind the Stratosphere who opened its doors to the public back in 1996.

A tooth-and-nail political battle for the ages is being played out in Nevada this primary season pitting anti-tax Republicans against moderates in nearly a score of Assembly races around the state.

It sits covertly in a sandy patch of shrub, an octagonal fiberglass box on the gaudiest avenue in America. Inside is a fist-size hydrophone, one of 13 acoustic devices that listen continuously for the minutest of leaks along a miles-long pipeline that daily spits out 7.5 million gallons of water to hotels and casinos along the Las Vegas strip.

Money can buy just about anything in Las Vegas.

Inside this 24/7 town, it’s easy to find whatever soothes a craving. That Sin City culture is further accentuated in its motto, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.”

Though it is the majority opinion of a U.S. Supreme Court decision that creates precedent, the dissent, if done correctly, can still potentially have influence on lower court decisions in similar cases. Also, what is not said can often lead to even more legal headaches down the road.
