The spring season is a time of renewal, rejuvenation, and — for students just returning to campus — an opportunity for a fresh start to learn and connect. Whether it's buying a colorful new planner from UNLV Bookstore, getting involved with student organizations, or scouting out the perfect campus study spot, students are finding ways to make the most of their semester.
We caught up with a few Rebels to ask them what they’ve learned from the previous semester and what their aspirations are for the months ahead.

David Ruiz, first-year student in architecture
Nestled in the nooks and crannies of campus, students can be found studying, lounging, or taking a much-needed break. On the fifth floor of Lied Library, David Ruiz reflects on how his fall semester amplifies his ambition for the spring. “I got straight A’s and one B. I studied pretty hard, and maybe this time I'd study even harder, but I was pretty proud.”
Hanne Breur, senior in biology
Between clubs, courses, and campus life, students juggle a number of college commitments. How do they decide what gets prioritized? After a period of balancing school and being a goalie for the UNLV women’s soccer team, Hanne Breur shifted her focus to the academic side of being a student. She also applied to a medical school in the Netherlands. “I'm hoping to graduate with an A for this one class I'm taking, finish up my degree here, and start school back all over again.”
Terrence Boyd-Weatherly, sophomore in business marketing
Our students are many things — innovators, researchers, visionaries, and sometimes even business owners. Terrence Boyd-Weatherly, a business owner in real estate, is determined to capitalize on every opportunity he can to ensure that a successful future starts with a successful semester. “My hope for the spring semester is to really focus on networking and exploring all of UNLV, like campus events and things of that nature.”
Faith Saguisag, first-year student in interior architecture
Finding her footing after high school was no easy task, but Faith Saguisag is taking her college experience step-by-step, uncovering ways to improve each semester. “I struggled with a lot of time management, but over that whole last semester, I have gotten better,” she says, adding that her main goal this semester is to improve her study habits and pass all of her classes.
Osley Perez, first-year student in criminal justice
Benjamin Servin, first-year student in physics
Making friends is a big part of the college experience, and getting involved in campus events is a great way to make lasting connections. Benjamin Servin, already a member of the Rebel Events Board, wants to keep the bond-building momentum. “My hopes for the spring semester are to attend more basketball games, be more involved with the community, and overall, just get better grades,” he says.
Perez says, “I definitely want to make more friends and just get to know a bunch more people and make more connections."
