Mass shootings left three people dead in Nevada and killed six in Texas this week, the most recent attacks in a year that has seen an acceleration of mass killings in the United States.

UNLV has made changes to its end-of-semester operations in response to the shooting that killed three professors this week, the university announced Friday.

In an afternoon media conference on Friday, UNLV President Dr. Keith E. Whitfield noted the “emotional state” the university is in while applauding the performance of the campus police who leaped into action to prevent further casualties.

In a display of solidarity, students from the Clark County School District and local businesses rallied together on Friday to express their unwavering support for the UNLV community after the tragic shooting earlier in the week.

Three University of Nevada, Las Vegas faculty members died this week and another was critically injured when a lone gunman walked onto campus and opened fire in the building housing the business school.

On Friday the university, acknowledging the trauma students and faculty have experienced, canceled on-campus, in-person finals. Instead, faculty and students have flexibility to decide how to end the semester.

The Foundations Counseling Center will facilitate a new support group on Mondays beginning December 11 at 6 p.m. at 8950 W Tropicana Ave, Suite 1.

In a statement released Friday morning, UNLV President Keith Whitfield said there will be no on-campus, in-person final exams for the fall semester. Students will end the semester with their grades earned before Dec. 6.
