UNLV continues to move forward on construction and renovation projects designed to improve accessibility, modernize learning and support spaces, and address long-standing infrastructure needs across campus. Several major efforts have recently reached important milestones, while others are progressing toward completion later this year.
Below is a snapshot of recent updates and what the campus community can expect in the months ahead.
Construction Projects
Performing Arts Center Accessible Pathway
The new accessible pathway connecting the Performing Arts Center plaza to the Academic Mall is now open for use.
The project addresses a long-standing accessible circulation gap between the Performing Arts Center plaza and the campus core. Previously, the plaza felt isolated and was best accessed via the north entry. Now, the new pathway provides a continuous, ADA-compliant route between the two areas, adding a beautiful terminus to the north end of the academic mall. Additionally, the pathway greatly improves access for individuals using wheelchairs and other mobility devices, as well as those navigating the grade change on foot.
This pathway is not appropriate for wheeled conveyances like bikes and electric scooters. Using them in this area can result in serious injury for both users and pedestrians. For the wellbeing of your fellow Rebels, please dismount and walk any of your wheeled conveyance devices down the pathway.
In addition to the accessible pathway, the project includes new seating, lighting, signage, and landscaping within the plaza area. These improvements help the plaza work better for everyday foot traffic and for the crowds that gather during performances and campus events. Additional background on the project is available on the UNLV News Center.
Some minor touch-up work may continue in the surrounding area, including sod replacement and landscaping adjustments. These activities are not expected to limit access to the ramp.
Brussels Parking Garage
UNLV is advancing construction of a new parking garage on the east side of campus, officially named the Brussels Street Garage. The six-level garage will include approximately 1,500 parking spaces. Since it will replace a surface lot with approximately 250 spaces, the project will result in a net gain of approximately 1,250 parking spaces, improving parking availability and access to campus and transit connections for students, faculty, and staff.
Preliminary utility and site preparation work is nearing completion, with construction of the garage structure scheduled to begin in April 2026. The project is expected to be completed in late spring or early summer 2027 and open for the fall 2027 semester.
The garage is designed with safety and accessibility in mind and will feature clear wayfinding, accessible design elements, an open façade for natural light and airflow, and a visible exterior staircase that makes it easier for people to move between levels. Additional features include shaded areas, landscaping, seating, electric vehicle charging stations, energy-efficient lighting, and solar panels. The facility will also house UNLV Parking and Transportation Services offices, providing a more convenient and centralized location for parking and transportation support.
UNLV/CSUN Preschool
Representing a significant investment in early childhood education, construction on the preschool expansion continues to move forward through Phase 1.
Phase 1 includes two new classroom buildings, expanded outdoor play areas, and new shared spaces designed to support students, families, and staff. One building houses the new Early Childhood Education campus entry and lobby, a Parent Resource Center, a conference room, and two classrooms serving children ages three to four. The building is expected to reach substantial completion in mid-May, with final finish work and furniture installation continuing into June.
The second classroom building will house two additional classrooms serving children ages three to five. Substantial completion for this building is anticipated in August, with final finishes and furniture installation to follow—completing Phase 1. In addition to work on the buildings themselves, construction activity continues across the site, including installation of two new outdoor play structures and associated site improvements.
Future phases are planned but not yet funded. Phase 2 would add two classroom buildings serving infants through one- to three-year-olds, and Phase 3 would include a new multipurpose room to support school programming. No construction schedule has been established for these phases.
Renovations
Lied Athletic Complex (LAC)
Renovation work at the Lied Athletic Complex modernizes several high-use areas within the facility, including the lobby, main central corridor, weight training room, Rebel Fuel grab-and-go and juice bar, and the treatment room area, which includes exam rooms, a hydrotherapy room, and a sports science space. While some layout adjustments were made to improve functionality, the project primarily focuses on updated finishes and equipment, including new weight racks, kitchen equipment, and upgraded treatment and training resources.
Renovation work at the Lied Athletic Complex is entering its final phase, with substantial completion anticipated by the end of the month. All structural work and the installation of major mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems are complete. Interior finishes are nearing completion, with painting largely finished and resilient flooring installed in the weight training room and treatment areas. Ceiling systems, lighting, millwork, countertops, and security infrastructure have also been installed. The project team is currently working through final details and required inspections in preparation for receiving the Certificate of Occupancy.
Following certification, furniture delivery will continue through the end of March, allowing the renovated spaces to be fully outfitted and ready for use soon after.
Campus Resource Center (CRC), Carol C. Harter Classroom Complex (CHB), and Alta Ham Fine Arts (HFA)
These Facilities Management projects addressed both visible wear and underlying infrastructure issues with restrooms and plumbing, with many areas taken down to bare studs and rebuilt to reduce the likelihood of future disruptions. Completed improvements include new bathrooms with reliable plumbing and sewer infrastructure, replacement of deteriorated sewer lines, new plumbing fixtures, and updated lighting.
Additional upgrades include new bathroom partitions, countertops, mirrors, and dispensers; updated finishes such as drywall, wall tile, and flooring; and ADA-compliant bathroom layouts. Where necessary, new hallway flooring was also installed, improving circulation and overall functionality.
This work will continue across campus as necessary.
These projects represent a mix of near-term improvements and longer-range investments that support how the campus functions day to day. As work wraps up on some sites and continues on others, Planning & Construction and Facilities Management will continue coordinating schedules, inspections, and final installations to move each project toward completion.
