Physical therapist Juan Gutierrez poses with his arms folded in an empty hospital room

A First-Gen Success Story Leads to Another

Inspired by another UNLV grad, Juan Gutierrez Jr. focuses his career on helping others through physical therapy. He's now the School of Integrated Health Sciences' Alumnus of the Year.

Long before completing his UNLV undergraduate degree in Romance Languages, Juan Gutierrez Jr. knew he was destined for a career in the medical field. So he returned to his alma mater, earned his physical therapy doctorate, and today relies on both degrees to get patients back on their feet. (Michael Roberts/UNLV)
