Professional Development Opportunities During DVAM

The Jean Nidetch Care Center is hosting two free training sessions this Domestic Violence Awareness Month. These sessions are a great opportunity to build practical skills, learn more about prevention, and gain tools for supporting victim-survivors and your peers.

Supporting Victim-Survivors of Domestic Violence Training

October 7 | 1–2:30 PM | Beam Hall, Room 216 or Virtual

Hosted by Christina Hall (Director) and Scott Hoffman (Assistant Director & Chair of UNLV Support Team), learn about the impact of trauma on students, the principles of trauma-informed and healing-centered care, and how to respond when a student discloses an experience of power-based violence.

“Don’t Be Chicken” Active Bystander Training

October 21 | 1–2:30 PM | Student Union, Room 219

Learn how to recognize warning signs in healthy, unhealthy, and abusive relationships and explore ways to safely step in as an active bystander. This presentation is tailored toward men, but everyone is welcome to attend! We’ll also talk about DVAM and ways to get involved with the Care Center.

  • Raising Cane’s chicken will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis!

Both trainings are free and open to students, faculty, staff, and members of the greater community. Bring a colleague, come with your department, or join us on your own!

[RSVP for the trainings and DVAM events here]

We hope to see you there!
