UNLV’s status as a top choice for military veteran students is once more maintained, as the university was again named among the nation’s top 10 “Military Friendly” campuses of its size by Viqtory and G.I. Jobs Magazine. UNLV was ranked number three overall in 2024, and was also named a Military Spouse Friendly School for the first time.
Over 1,800 schools nationwide were evaluated for the annual ranking in areas such as student retention, graduation, job placement, and loan default rates.
UNLV, which also ranked as a top 10 Military Friendly School in 2021 and 2023, was included among the nation’s best in the category of “Tier 1 Research Universities.” Additionally, it earned a “Best for Vets” designation from the Military Times in 2023. This year’s top ten designation will be published in an upcoming issue of G.I. Jobs Magazine with a special feature listing.
And the university, through its Military Veteran and Services Center (MVSC), currently enrolls more than 1,700 military-affiliated students.
“We’re proud to have helped thousands of student veterans over the past decade, and this ranking is indicative of the tremendous growth we’ve been through and of our commitment to serving those who’ve served,” said Ross Bryant, a U.S. Army veteran and director of the MVSC. “From day one, our goal has always been focused on our student veterans and their families, to help them change their lives for the better and support their academic and personal success..”
The MVSC marked its 10th anniversary in 2022, recently celebrating a major milestone with the visit of VA Deputy Secretary Tanya Bradsher. Her visit was the first of its kind for the campus, with representatives from three congressional offices in D.C. talking to our veterans about various benefits.
Staffed with veterans and people familiar with VA Education Benefits, the MVSC helps students through admissions, enrollment, campus and community support services, along with employment opportunities after graduation.
Mentoring programs including Peer Advisors Veteran Education and Veterans Integration to Academic Leadership all help elevate UNLV’s standing amongst the country’s elite schools for veteran education. The university also has an active student veteran organization, Rebel Vets, and UNLV student members have twice been named the nation’s Student Veteran of the Year by the Student Veterans Association of America.
Throughout its history, UNLV has helped more than 9,000 military-affiliated students jumpstart their academics. That includes active-duty service members, National Guard, reservists, veterans, and military family members with transferred benefits.
