Manoj Sharma (Social & Behavioral Health; Internal Medicine), as a senior collaborator with the GBD 2023 Asia Life Expectancy Collaborators, coauthored “Mapping drivers of life expectancy change in Asia from 1990 to 2023” in Nature (Impact factor 56.1). The study was unique because most previous research on the longitudinal trends in life expectancy has focused on Western or other high-income settings, despite Asia representing approximately 60% of the global population. The findings showed that while life expectancy increased between 1990 and 2023 in 34 Asian countries included in the analysis, there were variations between nations and, in comparison, to the Western world. There is a definitive need to bridge the gaps globally and improve life expectancy universally.
