First-Gen Connect is a free conference for first-generation college students, (students whose parents do not have a four-year college degree) and their parents or guardians. The conference gives attendees the opportunity to connect with current students, faculty, and staff who will assist them with the transition into college. First-Gen Connect introduces programs and student success strategies that are prudent for success at UNLV (i.e. time management skills, the Academic Success Center, the Writing Center etc.) Both students and parents or guardians will be connected to UNLV and the many academic and social resources offered.
First-Gen Connect is designed to:
Provide an engaging, original experience for first-generation students and their families
Prepare first-generation college students to be successful in college
Help first-generation college students transition into UNLV by discussing potential barriers to success while providing support and solutions for these barriers
Connect students with campus resources
Help students develop a supportive network they can access throughout their UNLV experience
Spanish-speaking translators may be available. Please indicate on your registration form if a translator is needed.
