First-Gen Connect is a free conference for first-generation college students, (students whose parents do not have a four-year college degree) and their parents or guardians. The conference gives attendees the opportunity to connect with current students, faculty, and staff who will assist them with the transition into college. First-Gen Connect introduces programs and student success strategies that are prudent for success at UNLV (i.e. time management skills, the Academic Success Center, the Writing Center etc.) Both students and parents or guardians will be connected to UNLV and the many academic and social resources offered.
First-Gen Connect is designed to:
Prepare first-generation college students to be successful in college
Help first-generation college students transition into UNLV by discussing potential barriers to success
Connect students with campus resources
Help students develop a supportive network they can access throughout their UNLV experience
There will be Spanish-speaking translators available, and attendees are asked to indicate on the registration form if a translator is needed.
There will be two dates that you can choose to attend for First-Gen Connect. Please choose either date in the registration form.

Is First-Gen Connect the same as New Student Orientation (NSO)?
No, First-Gen Connect is an optional, but highly recommended, conference for first-generation students attending UNLV. This conference allows new first-generation students and their guardians to hear from current UNLV first-generation students and faculty on how to be successful and prepare for the rigor and freedom that comes with university life.
