First-Gen Connect is a free program for first-generation college students (students whose parents do not have a four-year college degree). The program offers participants the opportunity to connect and build community with current students, faculty, and staff who will assist them with the transition into college. First-Gen Connect introduces programs and student success strategies that can contribute to their success at UNLV (i.e. the Academic Success Center, the Writing Center, time management skills, etc.)
First-Gen Connect is designed to:
- Provide an engaging, original experience for first-generation students
- Prepare first-generation college students to be successful in college
- Help first-generation college students transition into UNLV by discussing potential barriers to success while providing support and solutions for these barriers
- Connect students with campus resources
- Help students develop a supportive network they can access throughout their UNLV experience
