About the Fellowship
The Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering and Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) are pleased to announce applications for the Pathways in Engineering (PIE) Research Fellowship, generously funded by the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering and managed by OUR. This semester-long program provides engineering undergraduate students with a $1,500 research stipend and the faculty research mentor with a $500 research supply stipend.
Awardee Requirements and Expectations
Awardees are expected to meet the following requirements:
- Commit to the semester-long duration of the program
- Present at the biannual Undergraduate Research Symposium in the fall or spring semester
- Acknowledge the “Pathways in Engineering” Research Fellowship funding support provided by the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering and the Office of Undergraduate Research in any subsequent presentation, or publication, resulting from the research conducted.
Eligibility and Consideration
To be eligible for consideration, you must:
- Be a currently enrolled UNLV undergraduate student with a declared major in the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering (including computer science students, as the Department of Computer Science is part of the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering).
- Be working with a full-time faculty research mentor associated with the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering.
Please note that you will not be eligible for consideration if you:
- Are not a student who is majoring in an academic discipline outside the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering (even if you are working with engineering faculty).
- Are a B.S. in Cybersecurity student, as the B.S. in Cybersecurity is an interdisciplinary degree between the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering and the Lee Business School.
Application Process
Undergraduate students are required to submit the following as part of their application package:
- One-page personal statement detailing their ongoing research and future research endeavors, their current role in the research project, how this funding will assist in achieving their academic goals, and any other relevant information.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV). Please peruse the following samples: 1) Arts, 2) Social Sciences, and 3) STEM.
- Letter of recommendation from the faculty research mentor.
