Publishing Matters: A Frank Conversation About Predatory Publishing March 6

Join the University Libraries on Friday, March 6 at for a deep dive into predatory publishing, a significant problem of scholarly publishing that affects stakeholders throughout scholarly communication systems.

We will be joined by Professor Monica Berger, author of the book, Predatory publishing and global scholarly communications. Berger is an Instruction and Scholarly Communications Librarian at the New York City College of Technology, and has long studied the issue of predatory publishing and delivered numerous presentations on the topic to a wide array of audiences.

Along with a candid discussion of what predatory publishing is and the extent of the problem, we’ll cover publishing best practices, and how predatory publishing affects editors, authors, and publishers of legitimate journals.

This event is funded through the University Libraries Faculty Development Program and is the first of three events in the Publishing Matters series focusing on UNLV faculty and others who are current, former, and aspiring journal editors. Lunch will be served and registration is limited. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Goldfield Room at Lied Library.
