Dr. Barlow's career has been defined by unwavering dedication to student success, groundbreaking innovation, and a profound commitment to advancing equity and access across our campus.
Her visionary leadership is most notably reflected in her role as the founding Executive Director of The Intersection: Academic Multicultural Resource Center. Under her guidance, The Intersection became a nationally recognized model for supporting first-generation, underrepresented, and underserved students. Her work created a space of belonging and empowerment that integrates academic support, mentoring, personal development, and professional preparation — setting a new standard for holistic student engagement at UNLV.
Throughout her nearly three decades at the university, Dr. Barlow has been a driving force in elevating UNLV’s identity as a Minority-Serving Institution. In her roles as Assistant Vice President for Diversity Initiatives and Associate Dean in the Graduate College, she helped expand access to graduate education, strengthen mentoring pipelines, and improve retention and degree completion for countless students. Her leadership built the foundation for programs and initiatives that continue to influence student success today.
Dr. Barlow’s service to the university is both deep and far-reaching. She has chaired the MSI Student Services Subcommittee and contributed to more than forty committees and task forces addressing justice-impacted students, foster youth, multicultural education, and major executive searches. Her commitment to student-centered policy and practice has shaped the culture, priorities, and direction of the institution.
Her influence extends well beyond campus. Dr. Barlow has been a respected leader in the broader community through her work with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Pearls of Henderson Foundation, and numerous nonprofit organizations. Her efforts in mentorship, social advancement, and educational equity have earned recognition from local, state, and national leaders.
As Dr. Barlow transitions into retirement, she leaves behind a legacy defined by integrity, vision, and a deep belief in the power of education to transform lives. Her contributions will continue to resonate throughout our campus and among the countless students, colleagues, and community members she has inspired.
