Las Vegans assembled along the academic mall Friday, Oct. 24, eager to see what the College of Fine Arts had to offer at its annual Art Walk event.
In Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall, UNLV’s mariachi ensemble performed a stunning collection of traditional songs as artisanal chocolates were handed out to listeners. Outside, theatre performers astounded audiences with their skills in combat while ballet dancers showcased their grace on the barre.
Attendees enjoyed activities such as cooking up couplets at the Black Mountain Institute’s poetry kitchen, making movies with UNLV film, aluminum casting with sculpture students, and interacting with crafts like button-making, audio mixing, and silk screening. Car enthusiasts experienced architecture through automotive design with the School of Architecture.
And it’s not a proper walk without some music to set the scene. Entertainment engineering and design students hosted their program’s first outdoor venue at Lied Library. Over at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art, a flute ensemble played as people walked among the exhibitions. Osher Lifelong Learning students performed on ukuleles and guitars. Across campus, guests were treated to opera, jazz, and a drum band.
Audiences celebrated another successful Art Walk by marveling at musicians, performers, and art displays designed to bring together the arts community of Las Vegas and UNLV.
