Manoj Sharma (Public Health; Internal Medicine) coauthored an article, titled “Burden of non-communicable diseases and their attributable risk factors in Africa from 1990 to 2023: A systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023” as a senior collaborator with GBD 2023 Africa NCD collaborators in Lancet Global Health (Impact factor 22.5). The study found that in 2023, non-communicable diseases in Africa accounted for an estimated 2⋅33 billion new cases, 4⋅70 million deaths, and were responsible for 263 million disability adjusted life years lost.  More than half of NCDs are attributable to modifiable risk factors underscoring the need for behavior change educational and policy interventions in the African region akin to the world.
