Manoj Sharma (Public Health; Internal Medicine), as a senior collaborator with GBD 2023 HIV Collaborators, coauthored an article titled “Global, regional, and national burden of HIV/AIDS, 1990–2023, with the estimated burden attributable to intimate partner violence and forecasted impacts of funding cuts through 2030: Results from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023” in the journal The Lancet HIV (Impact factor 14.6). The study found that globally, between 2003 and 2023, HIV infections declined from 2.85 million to 2.06 million, and mortality declined from 1.71 million to 0.83 million. Intimate partner violence was associated with an estimated 10.7% of HIV-related deaths among women. The projected funding cuts will adversely affect progress in this area.
