Julian Kilker (Journalism and Media Studies) and Yvonne Houy (Fine Arts) presented “Introducing QGIS effectively with learner-generated data” at the Oct 2026 QGIS User Conference, as part of that group’s focus on developing geospatial research tools and techniques for a wide range of users. The presentation introduced course design, pedagogical, and student perspectives used to successfully implement a collaborative heat vulnerability field mapping assignment for graduate and undergraduate students in Kilker’s visual research methods course.
