Gary Totten (English) published a chapter, "Edith Wharton and the Narratives of Travel and Tourism," in The Bloomsbury Handbook to Edith Wharton, edited by Emily J. Orlando. Totten's chapter discusses how Wharton's travel writing in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century focuses on both the cultural value of serious travel and the pleasures of tourism.
