D. Hunter, T. Tran, and Z.J. Sun (all Health Physics and Diagnostic Sciences) and their collaborators at Maryland Department of Environment, University of Nevada Reno, and Nevada Radon Education Program published a study in Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry titled "A Case Study: Assessing Heavy Metal Concentrations in Surface Water Systems of Nevada with Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis." Using an active nuclear assay, the team examines dozens of water samples from Lake Mead, Las Vegas Wash, and Lake Tahoe. The findings might be critical for assessing health risks, as these water systems support domestic and agricultural needs for downstream communities. This research was done by the Health, Environment, and Radiation Detection (HERD) group and funded by the UNR Extension & UNLV Partnerships program.
