Christopher D. E. Willoughby (African American and African Diaspora Studies; Interdisciplinary, Gender and Ethnic Studies) published the essay "A man of his time: Joseph Leidy, racial science, and American anatomy" in Anatomical Sciences Education. Willoughby's essay examines the role of Dr. Joseph Leidy, first president of the American Association for Anatomy, in promoting racial science in medical education. In particular, Leidy sheds light on the critical influence of nineteenth-century Ivy-League anatomical faculty in shaping the logic of racism in US medicine and society.
