Brittani Sterling (Libraries), social sciences and interdisciplinary studies librarian and assistant professor, was featured in the Dec. 12 edition of the Las Vegas Weekly, in the article, "Multicultural campus: UNLV has potential to become a diversity destination," alongside Steven Nelson (Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Higher Education) and UNLV President Keith Whitfield. In the article, Sterling discussed the effects of the semantic bleaching of the concept of DEI as well as the tangible outcomes of the Supreme Court's 2023 decision to strike down affirmative action on the ability to maintain and diversify the professoriate. Sterling's input was sought after the article's author — Amber Sampson — watched the University Libraries' most recent episode of its virtual education series on systemic racism, "We need to talk about the fight for diversity, equity, and inclusion," which Sterling guest hosted. The episode is a part of a larger series, We need to talk: Conversations on racism for a more resilient Las Vegas, which Sampson highlighted as one of UNLV's most well-known public commitments to marrying academic expertise with community agency, resulting in a unique venue that encourages open dialogue.
