MBA Financial Aid and Scholarship

Financial Aid

Financial assistance can be an integral part of a student's education regardless of the level of education achieved. The Lee Business School, Financial Aid and Scholarships office, and Graduate College offer several forms of financial aid that include loans, grants, scholarships, fellowships and graduate assistantships to assist MBA students to obtain a degree. Almost everyone, regardless of their income, can qualify for some type of financial aid.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

You must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online to be considered for Federal Direct Stafford Loans. While financial aid packages are offered to admitted students, all applicants are advised to file their FAFSA by November 1 for priority consideration. The fall semester deadline to submit your FAFSA is May 1. Students filing the FAFSA after May 1 should be prepared to pay their bill, or set up a payment plan. Financial aid funds can then be received as a refund.

Most students who apply for financial aid will qualify for loans. Graduate students qualify for unsubsidized loans which do accrue interest. Stafford Loans are offered at interest rates lower than consumer loans and repayment begins six months after graduation, or six months after enrollment drops to less than half-time status. Students who file the FAFSA early and show high need may also qualify for a Federal Perkins Loan. Funding for this program is limited.

The Grad PLUS program is a non-need-based federal loan that allows graduate students to borrow up to the full cost of attendance, minus any other financial aid they are receiving. This program may be of interest to students who either have little or no eligibility for need-based financial aid programs or need additional assistance to pay college costs after other forms of aid have been awarded. These loans are contingent upon creditworthiness or require a creditworthy co-borrower.

The UNLV financial aid school code is 002569. Applicants having questions about the financial aid process, loan programs, or estimated costs also may contact the UNLV Financial Aid & Scholarships Office at 702-895-3424 or email Get additional information on the financial aid.

Graduate Assistantships

A graduate assistantship provides a higher level of financial support and cannot be combined with other employment. Graduate assistantship positions are available on a competitive basis to students admitted to any graduate degree program. Graduate assistants must enroll in and maintain a minimum of 6 semester hours of graduate credit and are required a work commitment of 20 hours per week. Graduate Assistants receive a yearly stipend of $10,000, tuition assistance and $1000 towards student health insurance. The deadline to apply for Graduate Assistant positions is March 1.

Applications may be accepted after this date in the event of an unexpected opening for the fall semester. In rare cases in which an assistantship is available for the spring semester, the application deadline is November 1.

Lee Business School MBA Scholarships

The Lee Business School offers a limited number of scholarships for graduate students.

All MBA students will be considered for the MBA differential scholarships without submitting an additional application. Applications are reviewed based on several factors and those factors will vary depending upon the award. The selection committee is looking for candidates who excel in one or more of the following categories: Academics, Internship & Work Experience, Community Service, and Leadership. Your chances of being selected are better if you are able to demonstrate strength in some or all of these four essential qualities.

The Lee Business School offers a number of scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students. The application is due every February 1. More information and scholarship details can be found at the Scholarship Overview page.
