The Dr. Ronald E. McNair Scholars Institute at UNLV is committed to increasing opportunities to enter faculty ranks by encouraging and preparing low-income and first-generation students to pursue doctoral studies.
The UNLV McNair Scholars Institute is funded 100% by a grant (P217A220023) from the U.S. Department of Education at a total cost of $1,135,084.

- Funded travel to academic research conferences
- Academic counseling and tutoring
- Fee waivers for graduate school applications
- Workshops for Ph.D. program preparation
- Assistance with financial aid, including scholarships and fellowship applications
- GRE (Graduate Record Examination) preparation seminar
Eligibility
Students are eligible if they meet the following criteria:
- Are a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen
- Have completed at least 59 credits
- Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Qualify as a low-income and a first-generation college student
- Must be an undergraduate
