One-On-One Tutoring

Student-Athlete Academic Services offers free one-on-one tutoring to all student-athletes for a variety of UNLV courses throughout the academic year and summer sessions. There are primarily two types of tutors: content tutors and strategic tutors. Content tutors assist student-athletes in specific courses and stress the student–athletes’ responsibilities for success in their academics. Subjects tutored typically include but are not limited to the following:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Math
  • Economics
  • English
  • Psychology
  • History
  • Kinesiology

Strategic tutors assist student-athletes in various subjects (excluding science and math) in order to improve the student’s study, organization, time management and test preparation skills. Student-athletes have the option to meet with a tutor weekly or meet with a tutor on an occasional basis. Student-athletes may request a tutor for each UNLV class they are currently enrolled.

Student-Athletes can book appointments through Rebel Success Hub.

Need help with booking a tutor? Please reach out your SAAS representative or the tutor coordinator at rebelstutoring@unlv.edu or 702-895-0656.

How to Join the Student-Athlete Tutoring Staff

The tutor program is an important academic support service offered by Student-Athlete Academic Services and qualified tutors are integral to the success of this program. The tutor’s main role is to promote and enhance student-athletes’ academic skills. Student-Athlete Academic Services is seeking individuals with strong communication skills and the ability to relate to students with diverse academic backgrounds. As we are guided by the UNLV Student Conduct Code and the rules and regulations set forth by the Mountain West Conference, the NCAA, and UNLV, this responsibility is one that should be taken seriously. Tutor-student placements will be made based upon the students' subject requests and their daily availability. You may be scheduled up to a maximum number of hours per week as you're willing to work.

Qualifications Required

  • Must be a current sophomore undergraduate student or graduate student at UNLV.
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2.
  • Must have earned a ‘B’ or better in the course you wish to tutor.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tutoring on a regularly scheduled basis to students assigned by Student-Athlete Academic Services.
  • Be available to tutor through the semester and during final exam week.
  • Gather all information necessary to provide thorough tutoring.
  • Complete required documentation in a concise and consistent basis.
  • Attend all Student-Athlete Tutoring meetings and trainings.

If you meet the above qualifications and are interested in applying, please contact rebelstutoring@unlv.edu for further application directions.

Faculty Recommendation Form

If you are unable to obtain a reference from a professor, please have someone who knows you well other than a parent submit a recommendation on your behalf. Your recommendation preferably should come from the primary course/subject area you wish to be considered.

After a review of your application and supporting documents, you will receive notification as to whether you have been selected for an interview. If you have any further questions after completing the application, please email rebelstutoring@unlv.edu.
