Fernando Avila, ’05 Physical Education, works in real estate while coaching girls soccer at Western High School. He enjoys staying active, working out, playing soccer, and helping others pursue their fitness goals. He is a second-degree Taekwondo black belt.

April (Powell) Stewart, ’95 BA Communication Studies and ’05 M.Ed., was reappointed by Gov. Joe Lombardo to a second term as a commissioner for Nevada Volunteers. Stewart credits her UNLV experience with empowering her to give back to the community. She enjoys reading and traveling.

Douglas Guild, ’89 BS Business Administration and ’10 MPA, serves as director of parks and recreation for the City of North Las Vegas, where he oversees parks, recreation centers, aquatics, trails, sports programs, and special events. Guild has spent his career serving Southern Nevada through public service and community leadership. He and his wife, Nanette, recently celebrated 33 years of marriage and are the parents of three children and grandparents of five grandchildren.

Melikabella Shenouda, ’21 BA Psychology and ’24 M.Ed. Higher Education, performed spoken word at TEDx Las Vegas during the event's second annual conference. Her piece, "Eclipse," explores themes of love, lust, and loss through wordplay and comic relief, with the goal of fostering connection and healing.

Ebenezer Belete, ’25 Ph.D. Learning Sciences, has taught at UNLV for the past four and a half years. He was selected by the university president as a commencement speaker for the 2026 spring commencement ceremony. Belete enjoys photography and has visited 22 national parks with his family, with a goal of seeing them all.

Rob Nickels, ’90 BS Management, retired from Cox Communications in July 2025 after 29 years with the company. He began a new position with Positron Access Solutions in February 2026. Nickels and his family moved to Ammon, Idaho, in May 2024.

Jason Meyers, ’14 M.Ed., is an educator in Las Vegas. He remains connected to UNLV after earning his master’s degree.

Trisha (Barba) Lacuesta, ’16 B.Ed. Education and ’20 M.Ed., has worked as a CCSD teacher for eight years and as a Read by Grade 3 strategist for two years. Lacuesta also has coached Girls on the Run for two seasons. She enjoys traveling, food and movies, and is married to Winston Lacuesta. Lacuesta credits her UNLV experience with shaping her career as an educator.

Maizie Dyess, ’25 Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, is an assistant professor at the University of Rhode Island, where she teaches science methods in the College of Education.

Angela Garcia, '17 Geology, is an exploration geoscientist at NASA’s Johnson Space Center and serves as an Artemis II science officer. Garcia supports lunar science operations for NASA’s Artemis missions and has helped train astronauts in geology and lunar observations.

Sheri Beyer, ’07 M.Ed., is a business immigration supervisor at Fragomen Del Rey Bernsen & Loewy LLP. Beyer credits UNLV with helping her build lifelong friendships and lasting memories through her graduate program.

Adrienen Davis, '05 BS Workforce Education and' 08 M.Ed. Educational Leadership, is celebrating 30 years with Vitalant, where she serves as a national quality manager. She began her career with the organization as a hospital services representative. Davis is the parent of three children, including UNLV graduates Scott Davis and Staci (Davis) Devinson, who both graduated from the College of Education, and grandmother of five.
