Student Cadets
Serving as the "eyes and ears" for University Police Department, the program has evolved its level of services to include:
- Evening safety escorts
- Room openings
- Emergency notifications
- Event services
The Student Cadet program was established to augment police services available to the university community, and has served UNLV for more than 20 years providing approximately 200 hours per week of direct service to campus. The program constantly strives to improve and adapt to the ever-growing and evolving UNLV campus community.
Student Cadet Employment
University Police Department is seeking mature, responsible students who work well independently and are committed to supporting the safety of our campus communities. Student Cadets serve as ambassadors of the department, helping protect property, assist the campus community, and project a positive image of University Police.
About the Position
Student Cadets play an important role in supporting daily operations and campus safety efforts. This is a paid, part-time position designed to accommodate academic commitments while providing meaningful work experience.

20 hours per week or less
Compensation & Benefits
- $14 per hour, with promotional opportunities
- Flexible scheduling to accommodate school commitments
- Various shifts and days available
- All required equipment provided
Primary Duties
- Securing equipment and property
- Unlocking and relocking buildings and classrooms
- Providing a visible presence at campus functions
- Assisting dispatch when needed
- Assisting with after-hours vehicle jump starts
Qualifications
- No previous experience required
- Must be in good academic standing
- Must be able to pass a background investigation
- May be required to complete a screening test for controlled substances
- Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or international student meeting UNLV employment standards
