Protect Your Ride
Bike and scooter theft can happen fast. Locking correctly helps prevent theft, and registering your ride helps UPD verify ownership if it's recovered.
How to Properly Lock Your Bike or Scooter
This short video shows the best way to secure your frame and wheel (or scooter stem/frame), choose the right lock, and reduce theft risk on campus.
Register Your Bike or Scooter
Registration is a safety resource that helps UPD identify your property and contact you if it is recovered.
Benefits
- Your bike/scooter information is on file with UPD
- Helps verify ownership if property is found
- Supports faster contact and return when possible
Ways to Register
- Online: Complete the Property Registration Form
- At Events: Visit a registration event hosted on campus
- In Person: Bring your bike or scooter to UPD (if/when offered)
You can register more than just bikes and scooters. Laptops, watches, and other items with a serial number are eligible too.
Be Able to Identify Your Bike or Scooter
If your bike or scooter is ever lost or stolen, being able to prove ownership is critical. The more identifying information you have, the better the chances of recovery.
Adding unique markings such as discreet engravings, stickers, or other identifiable features can also make your bike or scooter easier to recognize and help distinguish it from similar property.
Be sure to record and safely store the following:
- Serial number
- Make and model
- Color and size
- Photos of your bike or scooter
If you are unable to locate a serial number on your bike or scooter, we recommend contacting the manufacturer for assistance in identifying or assigning one.
Registration Events
The University Police Department hosts outreach and property registration events throughout the year to help keep campus safe. These events give students, faculty, and staff a chance to connect with UPD, learn practical safety tips, and register their property while exploring campus safety resources.
Be sure to check our events calendar for upcoming property registration events and outreach opportunities.
