About the Position

University Police Services is looking for mature, responsible students capable of working under supervision to serve as student dispatcher.

Duty Assignments

All personnel working within the Dispatch Communications Center are responsible for ensuring officer safety and effective, efficient, and proper processing calls for service. Duties assigned to Dispatch Student Employees include:

  • Answering emergency and non-emergency telephone calls for service
  • Operate radio communication equipment in support of special events and security personnel
  • Monitoring radio communications of nearby law enforcement agencies for incidents which may impact the safety of individual sat properties owned or leased by NSHE
  • Accurately and timely entry of pertinent information into the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system
  • Coordinating and relaying information and assistance requests to the appropriate law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical service agency
  • Coordinating various facilities maintenance departments for after-hour impacts to alarm panels, elevators, or building utilities
  • Coordinate security personnel for room openings, escorts, foot patrols, building checks, and other activities as appropriate
  • Monitoring video surveillance cameras for emergency call box activations, suspicious activity, and to provide additional support for officers responding to calls for service.

  • U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or international student meeting UNLV employment standards

  • 20 or less

Qualifications

  • Applicants will be required to submit to a criminal background investigation and may be required to submit to a screening test to detect the presence of controlled substances
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 WPM
  • Successful completion of a high school or post high school emergency telecommunications program
