Workday Release 2026 R2 Update

Workday has upgraded several features to improve the user experience. The changes took effect on Sept. 19 and include the following:

New Global Navigation Menu

Workday has updated the Global Navigation Menu to improve navigation and provide more personalized options. The platform automatically organizes menu items into relevant categories, including Personal, Team, and Organization. Within each category, you can reorder or remove menu items to personalize your menu.

Personalizing Navigation Menu

To access personalization options, click the hamburger menu in the top left corner of your web browser, then select Customize at the bottom of the Global Navigation Menu.

  • Sidebar or Collapsible Menu View: Choose between a Sidebar view or a Collapsible Category Menu. If the sidebar is hidden, the navigation menu collapses but remains accessible through the Menu button in the header. Use the Always Show Sidebar toggle to change your menu view.
  • Add Menu Items: Add menu items within each category by selecting Add Menu Items.
  • Reorganize Apps and Categories: Use the grip vertical icon, represented by six vertical dots, to reorder apps within a category or categories within the menu.
  • Pin Apps: Pin up to four apps to the top of the menu for quick access by selecting the ellipsis icon, represented by three horizontal dots, and choosing Pin to Menu.
  • Favorites: Favorites are now available from the Saved link at the bottom of the Global Navigation Menu or under the Profile icon at the top right corner of your web browser.
  • Reset to Default: Users can reset the menu to its default configuration at any time.

Notes: Mandatory apps, such as Benefits and Pay, Time Off, and Workday Training Resources cannot be removed. The Personal and Team categories appear at the top of the menu by default. Apps available in your menu are based on your security roles.

Improvements to Change Job Initiation

Workday has improved the user experience when initiating Change Job business processes by reducing accidental initiations. Updates include:

  • A workflow now displays on the business processes homepage so you can track progress.
  • Subprocesses will appear dynamically based on the items selected after you click Next.
  • The Change Job business process status changes to "In Progress" after you complete the subprocesses and click Submit.
  • When a Request Transfer is initiated through the Recruiting business process, all employees assigned the Administrative Assistant security role for the supervisory organization where the position is housed will receive a Revise Job Change item in their Workday inbox. These employees must coordinate to determine who will take action. The designated employee should click Make Changes, represented by the blue button, and select a reason for the Change Job transfer request.

Additional Enhancements

Additional Workday system updates include:

  • Team Highlights: Managers can no longer access the Team Highlights section from the Workday home page. This information has been relocated to the Global Navigation Menu.
  • Filter and Column Management for Tables with Hidden Columns: You can now filter data using hidden columns and make automatically hidden columns visible in your table. This helps maintain a cleaner layout and reduces horizontal scrolling.
  • Report Processing Time Estimates on Notify Me Later: Workday now provides dynamic estimates for how long reports will take to run, helping users plan accordingly.
