The University Police Department has just six seats remaining for its upcoming Community Police Academy, taking place September 8 through October 27, 2026.
Classes will be held every Tuesday at University Police Headquarters, 1280 Dorothy Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89119, with select sessions taking place at additional locations listed in the course syllabus.
The Community Police Academy gives participants an inside look at how University Police Department personnel work to support the safety and security of our campuses. This educational program is designed to build a better understanding of law enforcement operations and is not a reserve police officer training program.
Participants will learn about areas such as patrol operations, Dispatch, Detectives, K9, Traffic Enforcement, MACTAC, Community Outreach and Problem-Solving, Emergency Management, and the roles of Community Service Officers and Student Cadets.
Whether you are interested in a career in law enforcement or simply want to learn more about how UPD serves our campus communities, this is a great opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the department.
Eligibility:
The course is open to current UNLV students, faculty, and staff with a valid UNLV ID. In accordance with course policy, participants must:
• Not be a fugitive from justice
• Have no felony or gross misdemeanor convictions
• Have no felony or gross misdemeanor arrests without conviction
Only six seats remain, so interested participants are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
