First Phase of New Parking Garage Construction to Begin This Month

Preparatory work will begin this month on UNLV’s new state-of-the-art parking garage. The multi-level facility, located on the south side of the UNLV Rapid Transit Center, will add approximately 1,250 spaces for students, faculty, and staff.

On Sept. 22, crews will begin installing water lines and moving overhead electrical and data lines. As part of this work, Brussels Road from Joe Delaney Lane to University Road and Lot Z, west of the Architecture building, will be closed for the duration of the project.

Traffic and Parking Impacts and Alternative Routes

  • Entering / Exiting campus: Use Maryland Parkway at Harmon Avenue / E. Maude Frazier Way
  • Brussels Road will remain open between Tropicana Avenue and Lots F and A. These lots will remain accessible.
  • Staff spaces will be added to Resident Lot A while Lot Z is closed.
  • The Newman Center will remain accessible from the south entrance.
  • The LDS Institute will remain accessible from the north entrance.

While the first phase focuses on site preparation, garage construction is expected to begin in February 2026. Completion is scheduled for summer 2027, with the facility opening in time for the fall 2027 semester.

The garage will emphasize safety and accessibility with improved visual guides for drivers and pedestrians. It will also support UNLV’s sustainability goals with energy-efficient features and EV charging stations. Amenities such as shaded areas, seating, and food options are also planned.

During subsequent stages of construction, temporary parking and traffic adjustments will be announced in advance. Visit the Facility and Infrastructure Improvements web page for the latest project updates. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to enhance on-campus parking.
