February 2026 Rebel Accessibility Hero

The UNLV offices of information technology, accessibility resources and educational compliance are proud to recognize Sue Wainscott, Engineering Librarian in the University Libraries, as our Rebel Accessibility Hero for February 2026.

As the April 24, 2026 deadline approaches for ADA Title II compliance/conformance for all UNLV web content, we recognize a supportive colleague who remains an energetic advocate for digital accessibility.

Wainscott works with faculty and students in Aerospace Studies, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Entertainment Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Military Science. In, 2018, she started her formal UNLV accessibility journey with our Foundations of Accessibility training. Over the years Wainscott has kept in touch with the Office of Accessibility Resources team to ensure that she maintained her knowledge and skills. Wainscott ensured that OAR was aware about accessibility initiatives that impacted librarians in her realm, such as resources shared by the Engineering Libraries Division, a group of engineering librarians and library friends and part of the American Association for Engineering Education.

As a UNLV Faculty Senate senator, Wainscott has been a generous supporter of our presence at faculty senate meetings and of our periodic presentations to the senate. Another mark of Wainscott's generosity, although unrelated to accessibility, is the Keep Calm and Carry Yarn group that meets in the Lied Library. This group of yarn crafters, thread and embroidery crafts and the yarn-craft-curious meets regularly and has produced dozens of items like the hats, scarves, and gloves shared through the UNLV Support Spot to offer support to UNLV students in need this winter as part of their Basic Needs Program.

Wainscott is a frequent source of accessibility information and inspiration for her colleagues. She often shares proactively provides information she thinks will come in handy for the projects her colleagues are working on."

Please join us in celebrating Sue Wainscott as our February 2026 Rebel Accessibility Hero!
