Call for Participation 2025 Interdisciplinary Research Symposium

The UNLV 2025 Interdisciplinary Research Symposium will be held on Oct.14, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Union. The goal of the Symposium is to provide attendees with opportunities to:

  • Engage in sessions designed to build knowledge and capacity for participating in interdisciplinary projects.
  • Foster collaboration around research and scholarship.
  • Build skills related to seeking and securing funding for collaborative and interdisciplinary research.
  • Learn from colleagues about their exciting and innovative projects.
  • Participate in the President’s Interdisciplinary Research Accelerator Challenge.

The Division of Research encourages and invites participation from the campus community in two of the session types offered at this year’s symposium. All submissions are due by 5 p.m. on Sept. 11, 2025. Presenters will be notified of acceptance by Sept. 15, 2025.

Capacity-Building Sessions

These 50 minute sessions are focused on practical topics for building research and scholarship skills. For example, the sessions could help participants engage in ideas related to working collaboratively in projects, expanding the reach of their work to different audiences, developing plans and skills for writing grants and other documents, managing time and teams, finding methods to address complex problems, or forming and sustaining partnerships.

Proposals for capacity-building sessions should be no more than 500 words and should include the following:

  • Title
  • Facilitator/Presenter names and department, with a contact person email address
  • Goal of the session or what you hope participants will learn
  • Brief description of the proposed session
  • Format of the session (e.g. interactive workshop, panel, paper presentation style)

Sessions will be selected based on those that most closely fit the goals of the Symposium.

Poster Presentation

The Symposium will include a poster session of faculty-led research and scholarship from 2:30-4:00 pm. Posters will be included in the program based on the order of submission (first come/first served), provided the topic, method, or project is interdisciplinary or collaborative in nature. Labs or teams will be limited to one poster per group unless space allows for additional posters. The Division of Research will pay for the printing of posters for the submission. Presenters are expected to be present at 2:15 pm to put up the poster and remain next to the poster for Q&A during the poster session period.

Submissions can be submitted here and should include the poster title, authors and affiliation (including departments at UNLV), 250 word abstract, and whether the poster is affiliated with any of the 8 interdisciplinary Research Development Areas (iRDA)

General Registration

General registration for the 2025 Interdisciplinary Research Symposium will open in mid-September once the agenda is finalized.
