August 2025 Rebel Accessibility Hero

The UNLV offices of educational compliance and accessibility resources recognize Marde Closson, director of field education in the UNLV School of Social Work as our August 2025 Rebel Accessibility Hero.

Jerra Strong, web accessibility specialist in UNLV Web & Digital Strategy and our inaugural Rebel Accessibility Hero, offered these words in his nomination:

"Marde was unsure about accessibility requirements at first, but made the effort to learn the skills needed to provide content that is usable for the students. With an attitude to accept feedback from the staff and students she represents, and make things more user friendly where possible, Marde is enabling students to get their education and experience, and eventually to be in service to our community.

When sharing about accessibility with her colleagues, Marde says 'If just one student in the program uses it [the accessible features of a document or an accommodation], then that one student is important.' It is for this reason that I feel she embodies the spirit of a Rebel Accessibility Hero."

For these and more, please join us in honoring Marde as our Rebel Accessibility Hero for August 2025.
