Rebecca Barber (Business Affairs), along with co-authors from Arizona State and Virginia Tech, published "Investigating the Impact of Brief Outings on the Welfare of Dogs Living in US Shelters" in a special issue of the journal Animals that was focused on the welfare of animals in animal shelters. The UNLV Purchasing Department has earned the 2016 Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award. The department is only one of six agencies in Nevada and one of only 25 higher education organizations in the United States and Canada to receive the award. Sandra Shackelford (Risk Management) received the annual Historic Preservation Award from the city of Las Vegas for her contribution of countless volunteer hours spent sewing the drapes and curtains for the historic ranch house (now the visitors center) at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs. This was her second award from the city. She previously was given the Citizen of the Month Award. Both were presented to her by the Mayor Carolyn Goodman and Councilman Steve Ross.

The facilities management department received an incentive check from NV Energy in the amount of $10,969 for its participation in the Sure Bet Program. According to NV Energy, the program is designed to make energy efficiency improvements more cost effective for businesses. The improvements not only help save on electric bills, but also protect the environment through reduced energy consumption while at the same time maintaining the comfort of customers and employees.

The purchasing and contracts department received the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award for 2012 from the National Purchasing Institute (NPI). It is the fifth consecutive year the department has received the prestigious award.
