Announced in April, Black Fire is a 43,000-square-foot academic incubator that will be located in UNLV’s Harry Reid Research & Technology Park. It features mock hotel rooms, a casino floor and a sports book. It will also feature an Intel presence that, according to Caesars vice president of business innovation and technology strategy John Celona, will “elevate” opportunities for students to learn about visual analytics, bleeding-edge computing capabilities and the internet of things.

There aren’t many places where you can find electronic gaming, slot machines, blackjack tables, esports and a sportsbook in one room -- not to mention a bar, restaurant, café and even realistic hotel rooms.

On a mild winter’s day in Las Vegas last Thursday, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak, and former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid were joined by state officials and gaming industry executives to cut the ribbon on the first building to open as part of a unique partnership.
