Dr. Karl Kingsley, Dr. Jason Klingler, and Ching Shen (all Dental) published the peer-reviewed manuscript "Prevalence of Aggregatibacter Actinomycetemcomitans and Fusobacterium Nucleatum among Clinical Orthodontic and Non-Orthodontic Saliva Samples" in the International Journal of Advances in Microbiology. Klingler is an orthodontics resident, while Shen is a dental student.

Jeffrey Ebersole (Dental) co-authored “Gene Expression Analysis of Neuropeptides in Oral Mucosa During Periodontal Disease in Nonhuman Primates,” which appeared during April on PubMed ahead of print in the Journal of Periodontology, the official journal of the American Academy of Periodontology. The study concluded anti-inflammatory neuropeptides and neuropeptides receptors could play a role in the unresolved infection and inflammation that normally drives tissue destruction in periodontitis.

Dr. Neamat Hassan Abubakr Hassan (Dental Medicine) co-authored and served as corresponding author for “Patient–dentist Relationship and Dental Anxiety among Young Sudanese Adult Patients,” which showed that relationships might be an important target for improving the delivery and standards of oral health among dentally anxious patients in the region. Edward Lynch (Dental) has just been elected again by his peers as the thirty-fifth most influential person in dentistry in 2018, The results were published in the UK Journal Dentistry in May. Lynch is one of the very few people to have been voted every year in the Top 50 influencers in Dentistry since this voting started 16 years ago.
