Jeffrey Ebersole and Linh Nguyen (Dental) and Arpita Basu (Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences) co-authored “Age and Periodontal Health – Immunological View,” which focused on biological aging instead of chronological aging to help account for population variation in disease expression. Dr. Edward Lynch (Dental) accepted an invitation to be the primary speaker during the International Frontiers in Ozone Conference, and Ozone Therapies Group annual meeting. While there, he presented more than 14 hours of lectures and workshops to a collection of dentists, doctors, veterinarians, scientists, and academics from around the world. He also received the organization’s prestigious annual award for Best Worldwide Research about Ozone, as well as the Lifetime Achievement award.

Kenneth Izuora, Ammar Yousif (both Medicine), Civon Gewelber, and Michael Neubauer (both Dental), along with Gayle Allenback, are the authors of an article appearing in the Journal of Investigative Medicine. This was the result of an investigator-initiated study conducted at the University Medical Center (UMC) that looked at health outcomes associated with dental loss in a cross-section of hospitalized patients with and without diabetes mellitus.

UNLV School of Dental Medicine faculty and students participated in a recent remote area medical event in Pahrump and provided routine tooth extractions, surgical extractions, and front teeth restorations free of charge to approximately 15 children and 110 adults. The volunteering dental students worked more than eight hours during their Saturday and Sunday shifts. Medical exams and vision checks also were provided to people in need.
