Panel discussions and lectures are among the UNLV-sponsored activities scheduled for March in honor of Women's History Month.
Women and unions will be the topic of the keynote address delivered by Rutgers University professor Sue Cobble. Other major events scheduled are lectures by Nevada Supreme Court Justice Nancy Becker, Las Vegas Mayor Jan Jones, and Nevada Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa concerning women and politics.
Cobble's presentation on "Body Rights and Beyond: Women Transforming Unions" will take place at 7 p.m. March 2 in the Moyer Student Union, Room 203. Cobble, a professor at the Rutgers University School of Management and Labor Relations, is a leading authority on women and labor organizing.
Becker will make a presentation on "Women and Politics" at 2 p.m. March 4 in the Moyer Student Union, Room 201. Jones will focus on "Women in Politics" at 2 p.m. March 10 in the Moyer Student Union, Room 203. Del Papa will discuss "Women, Politics, and the Law" at 1 p.m. March 17 in Frank and Estella Beam Hall, Room 242.
On March 12 at 2 p.m. a panel discussion titled "Rethinking Sexual Identity Politics" will be held in John S. Wright Hall, Room 112. Panelists will include Carey Kaplan, an English professor at St. Michael's College; Jodi O'Brien, a sociology professor at Seattle University; and Shane Phelan, a political science professor at the University of New Mexico.
"Alternative Medicine and Women's Health," a panel discussion with midwife and herbalist Lynn Schwartzman, chiropractor Wendy Scheer, and physician Jerry Cade, will be held at noon March 25 in John S. Wright Hall, Room 112.
The fourth annual Women and HIV Conference, titled "A Time for Healing: Women and HIV," is set for March 1-5 at the Orleans Hotel and Casino. For additional information on this event, call Patricia Stachewicz at the Clark County Health District at 383-1343.

Among the organizations sponsoring one or more of the March events are UNLV's women's studies program, the Clark County Coalition of HIV/AIDS Services Providers, the state Department of Human Resources, UNLV's William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration, and the UNLV departments of history, political science, sociology, and English.
