UNLV Opera Workshop I presents Crime & Punishment on Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rando-Grillot Recital Hall. The performance will feature criminal, carceral, and courtroom scenes from operas and operettas such as The Beggar’s Opera, Lucio Silla, La Périchole, Fidelio, and Trial by Jury.
It also includes the workshop of a scene from Foil: The Trial of Julie d’Aubigny, a new opera by UNLV alumna and director of the University of Mississippi Opera Theatre Bonita Bunt and UNLV Opera DIrector Linda Lister. In preparation for this program, Opera Workshop I students visited UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Moot Courtroom on Oct. 30 for a mock trial facilitated by professors Marketa Trimble and Nell Christensen of the William S. Boyd School of Law.
Crime & Punishment is conducted by Darryl Cooper with stage direction by Linda Lister and student director Avery Smith. Master of Music student Maren Daynes is the collaborative pianist for the production.
