UNLV’s national award-winning opera program announces their fall chamber opera production. UNLV Opera Workshop II presents the one-act operetta Le mariage aux lanternes and a staged version of the secular cantata Weichet nur, betrübte Schatten (BWV 202) Nov. 13 and 14, 2025, at 7:30 pm in Dr. Arturo Rando-Grillot Recital Hall.
In Jacques Offenbach’s Le mariage aux lanternes (The Marriage by Lantern-Light), two gossipy widows show no interest in the young farmer Guillot until they believe he is about to discover a “treasure.” Ranon Pador and Christian Shelton star as Guillot, with Dasia Intil, Mia Lapingcao, Kelsey Lee, and Valeria Dapena Torres alternating as the widows. Avery Smith is the night watchman, while Alexia Hamilton and Elisbaeth Leone play Guillot’s “treasure” Denise.
Johann Sebastian Bach’s wedding cantata Weichet nur, betrübte Schatten (Retreat, gloomy shadows) features Alexia Hamilton, Mia Lapingcao, Oksana Trygubenko, and Jinjin Wang as brides; Ranon Pador and Christian Shelton as the best men; Valeria Dapena Torres and Kelsey Lee as the best women, Elisabeth Leone and Avery Smith as officiants; and Dasia Intil as the wedding planner.
This wedding-themed double bill is conducted by Darryl Cooper with stage direction by Linda Lister. Spencer Baker is the collaborative pianist for the production. Tickets are available online, or at the UNLV Performing Arts Center Box Office. Admission is free with a valid student ID.
