The Nevada Institute for Children's Research & Policy (NICRP) at UNLV will celebrate "Nevada Children's Day" to raise awareness of the critical issues affecting quality of life for children in Nevada. The event coincides with national "Step Up for Kids" events held throughout September. The event includes free admission to Lied Discovery Children's Museum, activities for kids and a community resource fair.

With an estimated 100,000 Nevada children living in poverty, children's advocates across Nevada are calling on federal, state, and local policy makers to offer support for programs that ensure the well being of Nevada's children.
"Children's Day," was designated by the Nevada Legislature last year and is held annually on the fourth Monday of September. The day is meant to encourage community activities that instill in each child a sense of self-respect and individual significance within his or her family, community and world.
Step Up for Kids events across the states raise awareness among voters and political candidates regarding the issues American children face, among them access to early care and learning and after-school programs, poverty, child abuse and neglect and health care.

- Denise Tanata Ashby, Executive Director of Children's Advocacy Alliance
