UNLV Opera is proud to present Le Comte Ory (The Count Ory) at 7:30 p.m. on March 8 and at 2 p.m. March 9 in the Judy Bayley Theatre. The opera is sung in French with English supertitles.
With a libretto by Eugène Scribe and Charles-Gaspard Delestre-Poirson, Le Comte Ory (The Count Ory) spotlights the comedic musical flair of composer Gioachino Rossini in an opera written in the bel canto style of The Barber of Seville. Set during medieval times, the Count Ory disguises himself first as a hermit and then as a nun to enter the castle of Formoutiers and woo the Countess Adele.
Le Comte Ory stars Christian Shelton and Collin Salmon as the Count, with Xinyu Pan-Herrington and Alonna Younger-Naughton as the Countess. Ana Elisa Portes and Courtney Schwalbe play the Count’s page Isolier, while Dongmin Byeon and Aaron Oberlander are the Count’s friend Raimbaud. Valeria Ore and Yile Huang play the part of Ragonde, lady in waiting to the Countess. Chase Orlando Gutierrez sings the role of the Count’s tutor. Danielle Noletto and Ana Rangel Ortiz alternate as the peasant girl Alice. Directed by Linda Lister and conducted by Darryl Cooper, Le Comte Ory features the talented design team of Michele Anderson (scenic designer), Jasmin Garcia (lighting designer), and Savannah Moore (costume designer).
In the past decade, UNLV Opera has won six national awards, from the National Opera Association and the American Prize. This UNLV Opera production of Le Comte Ory is a collaboration with the UNLV Department of Theatre/Nevada Conservatory Theatre.
