"Apartheid's Impact on the South African Environment: The Socio-Economic Roots of Environmental Destruction" will be the topic of a University Forum lecture at UNLV on April 18.
Heeten Kalan, director of the South African Exchange Program on Environmental Justice, will speak at 7:30 p.m. in the Classroom Building Complex, auditorium A-110. His presentation is open to the public free of charge.
Kalan will demonstrate how South Africa's organized racist policies have been detrimental to the environment. Slides will be used to illustrate the lecture.
Kalan, who divides his time between South Africa and the United States, is a visiting professor at Dartmouth College. The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and underwritten by the UNLV Provost's Office.
