Goettl Air Conditioning and Plumbing more than doubled its employee count in three years — swelling its ranks to over 1,000 — and its growth plans continue after the company picked up two firms in Northern Nevada, a new market for the local company.

Nevada is known for its gaming and tourism industry, but there has been a sustained effort to bolster the state’s startup community, particularly in Las Vegas.

Emily Johnson said she doesn’t know what to expect for Small Business Saturday, but with a 2-month-old clothing boutique in downtown Las Vegas, she heard it’s been called “Santa Saturday.”

Throughout the next few days, the team at Humboldt Sweets will bake nearly 150 pumpkin cream and chocolate cream pies.

The holiday shopping season is in full swing, and stores are offering discounts early this year.
