A viral video of a Zoox robotaxi driving past a “Road Closed” sign in Las Vegas’ Arts District is raising new questions about how driverless vehicles respond to unexpected road conditions — and prompting at least one longtime rideshare driver to urge residents and tourists to put safety first.

Autonomous robotaxis operated by Zoox are set to begin trips to and from Harry Reid International Airport on Thursday, Sept. 3, expanding beyond their current operations on the Las Vegas Strip.

Tesla Robotaxi filed an application with the Nevada Transportation Authority to bring up to 5,000 robotaxis to Clark County, if approved, they would join the fray of self-driving cars in the valley.
